ANCIPS-2010, Jaipur: A Big Success

The 62nd Annual Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society held at Jaipur on 17-20 Jan, 2010 was a big success. It was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Rajesthan, Mr. Aimaduddin Ahmad Khan. The Guest of Honor were Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, Hon'ble State Minister for Science & Technology and Prof. Ashok Panagaria, Vice Chancellor, Raj. University of Health Sciences and Principal & Controller, SMS Medical College & Hospital Jaipur.The IPS President Dr. E. Mohan Das presided the function. The theme of conference was: Preserving Mental Health through Family & Culture. This conference was co-sponsored by WPA.
Prof. Ajit Avasthi, the new President of IPS delivered the Presidential Address. Title was “Preserve and strengthen family to promote mental health”. Prof Mario Maj- WPA President, Dr. Pedro Ruiz- President Elect WPA, Prof Alan Schatzberg- President APA, Dr. Shiv Kumar Hatti, Dr. Dinesh Bhugra, Dr. Dilip Jetse, Dr. Harish Gadhavi, and Dr. MS Keshavan were among the overseas faculty. Award session, Theme Session, Guest Lectures, Special Lectures, Symposia, Free paper sessions and posters were the scientific highlights.
The CME sessions were highly informative, interactive and useful. Nearly 3000 delegates and accompanying persons including more than 100 delegates from abroad and SAARC countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangla Desh etc., made the conference lively and meaningful.
All past presidents of IPS present in the conference and the office bearers of IAPA (USA), ICPA, BIPA, IAPA (Australia), WPA, APA were honoured by the Chief Guest for their contribution to Indian Psychiatry, during the inaugural meeting.
The newly elected office bearers President- Dr. Ajit Avasthi, Vice President cum President elect- Dr. M. Thirunavakarasu, Hon. General Secretary- Dr. U C Garg, Treasurer- Dr. Asim Mallik and Editor- Dr. TSS Rao took charge of their offices.
The organizing committee led by Prof Shiv Gautam and Dr. Lalit Batra and their dedicated team made the event truly memorable. Our heartiest congratulations to the Org Committee for this wonderful conference.
The ANCIPS-2011 will be held in New-Delhi and Mid-term CME-2010, in Aurangabad.
